The oyster lovers of London can be reassured that their high expectations for variety, freshness and origin of this shellfish can be easily met and, perhaps, even exceeded at Wright Brothers restaurant located on the premises of the Borough market. Wright Brothers started as a wholesale company back in 2002 and specialised in French oysters on the UK market. Their client base was growing rapidly and the company quickly became one of the key suppliers of oysters for the best restaurants and hotels in London. The business diversified further and the company opened its oyster & porter house at Borough market.

This place is rather small, however, always very crowded and at busy times you may need to wait a bit to be seated or settle down for a dozen of oysters to be enjoyed outside on one of the wooden barrels placed near the restaurant entrance. If the weather is good, then this may be an excellent option; with a glass of champagne, of course! Alternatively, you can make a reservation and then enjoy a guaranteed seat inside. We love the places around the kitchen counter as you get to see how everything is prepared. On a busy day it is fascinating as the pace at which the chefs are working is unbelievable, and yet their actions are so well coordinated that no plate leaves the kitchen unperfected. Wright Brothers has a very informal atmosphere – people love to come by for a drink with oysters or a lovely lunch there. Oysters are certainly in the centre of the menu: besides French oysters, there are UK varieties including the ones from West Mersea, Scottish oysters from Cumbrae and more recently another 24 different oysters from the Pacific Northwest. If you fancy a fresh crab or a lobster – they are at your fingertips! All shellfish comes very fresh and done in such a way to preserve natural flavour of the seafood delicacies. If you order a seafood platter – you would be pleasantly surprised with the choice of shellfish on this huge ice platter. Fish soup with rouille, gruyere and croutons is a beautiful starter; if you prefer something more Asian, then we suggest a crab soup with coconut & coriander. Wine list is simple, but very carefully selected to compliment the food. You may be surprised with a rather extensive choice of dessert wines & digestifs – worth having a look indeed!

And if you'd like to take some oysters home, then be sure to come during Borough market open hours & visit Wright Brothers stand. This is an unbeatable treat to enjoy at home and when hosting friends.
