Although you may need to climb a bit on one of the hills, it is worth an effort. You will be heartily welcomed at Garrack Hotel which also has a very good restaurant.
Cornwall boasts one of the most spectacular seaside sceneries. Once you notice a hotel by the beach, your immediate reaction is to stop there & enjoy the rest of the evening. While we are almost certain that you would enjoy the beautiful sunset & view of the beach at night, we may not guarantee that you would be equally thrilled with what you find on the menu. There are not that many places that can offer both the spectacular view & the gourmet kitchen. St Ives, one of the more popular towns in Cornwall, is a good example of that. We, however, did not want to give up & did find a very interesting place. Although you may need to climb a bit on one of the hills, it is worth an effort. You will be heartily welcmed at Garrack Hotel which also has a very good restaurant. This is a family run business that started back in 1923. The Garrack Hotel stands in two acres with breathtaking views over Porthmeor beach, St. Ives, the sweep of St. Ives Bay and the Atlantic beyond. The hotel has 18 individually styled rooms that are somehow an elegant mix between the old English interior and modern amenities of this world. The hotel is an incredibly cosy place which allows you to feel at home at once, this is a rarity. The hotel grounds transform themselves and become your big house with an inviting fire place and breathtaking views of the ocean. The Garrack Restaurant was awarded 2 AA Rosettes, and as they like to say themselves, it is a minimum standard that you can expect in this place. Menu changes daily and is all seasonal. The focus of the kitchen is British dining at its best: the chef is constantly experimenting with Celtic/Gaelic, English and world influences. The menu has about 4 to 5 choices for appetizers as well as for the mains. Deserts always come freshly made and change daily. The waiter would usually carefully explain what desert specialties are prepared in the house, and be sure to be surprised with a beautiful and stylish presentation of those on your plate! The restaurant is not big & if you want the best view, secure a table on the winter garden terrace. Dress code is smart casual; after all you do not want to feel underdressed compared to the present guests. And, not to forget, the restaurant has a good wine list with an interesting selection of worldwide wines. back
